6 oz. distilled water 3 oz. sweet almond oil (other expellier expressed oils may be substituted) 1 oz. beeswax 1/4 t. borax Clean surfaces to be used with bleach water and wear gloves while preparing this lotion to keep the process as clean as possible. Soak all pans, utensils, and containers in a clean sink or pan with a 5% bleach solution for 15 minutes. Let them air dry. You need two pans. In the first pan, measure out the beeswax and oil. In the second, measure out the water. Heat the oil and beeswax in the first pan on low heat until the beeswax is melted. Heat the water in the second pan and add the borax, stirring until the borax is dissolved. Remove both pans from the heat. They should be the same temperature, about 100 - 120 degrees. Slowly add the water mixture to the oil mixture, whisking or using a hand beater all the while. Once it emulsifies, add 2 vitamin E capsules and fragrance, if desired. If using lavender essential oil, add 20 drops and mix thoroughly. Pour into bottle and cover when cooled. Since this recipe does not contain a preservative, it must be kept in the refrigerator and must be used within 2 weeks. Water is an invitation to microbial growth and the resulting danger should not be underestimated.
